Belles 150a Reference Version 2 Stereo Amplifier Reviews
Belles 150A Reference V2, vintage nearly 2013(?)
So I have 2 Panasonic G9's on the way. (The starting time 1 should be here any infinitesimal now.) My friend Izzy from B&H Photo sold me one equally a manner to lock in the current lowest-always price—only $ane,213—and some other is on the way from Lensrentals so I can attempt it out starting time.
The thought is that I won't open the one from B&H until I've used the rental unit of measurement and decided whether to keep the camera. That style if I take to return it I can return the camera in the untouched, unopened box to B&H—but I won't accept to risk missing the sale cost. (Sometimes, B&H knows how long special pricing will proceed for. Other times they don't.)
Shopping is complicated.
Costless money?
Looking for packing fabric in the basement to transport my now de-accessioned GX8 turned upwards a wonderful surprise—a stereo ability amplifier that I had utterly forgotten I endemic. And then thoroughly had I forgotten it that I was mystified when I plant information technology, thinking, what'southward in this Belles 150A box, books or something?
No—it's a pristine Ability Modules Belles 150A Reference two stereo power amp, hand-congenital past David Belles in the US of A—just upwardly the route, in fact, in Pittsford, New York, a suburb of Rochester. I chosen the company and the fellow on the telephone (I believe it was David himself, although I didn't ask) estimated from the serial number that the amp must be about four years one-time. I think information technology'due south more like five or six, though, because, about six years ago, I bought some new speakers and went through a menstruum when I was auditioning amps for them. Most of the amps came and went—buying and selling being about the only way I could audition annihilation—and I must have simply neglected to sell the Belles. Either that or I liked information technology too much to ungrip my grasping greedy fingers. I don't call back. (Here'south a review of the amp. I can see why I might accept liked it.)
The amp I had at the time was very unlike—a 35 watt per aqueduct EL-34 tube amp that is a modernized modification of the classic Dynaco Stereo 70. It'due south not a refurb or a restoration or what'due south chosen a "resto-mod" (i.east., restoration with modifications)—every office on it is new, including the replica base. I still have that one likewise. Don't use it, but tin't unclamp my grip.
I asked David Belles—if it was David Belles—how much they would charged for a checkup. "Why?" he said. "That amp was extremely well built, and it's made to final for years and years. A checkup would waste matter your money and my fourth dimension."
Belles 150A V2's toll ~$2,800 new (something like that—they're special order now and not listed on the company'southward web folio) and the going charge per unit is near $1,000 used. I would take bought it used, I'1000 certain, but I have no memory of what I paid.
And then anyway, I feel similar I merely found $one,000 in the burrow cushions!
Of grade, I should just put it in the depository financial institution. Simply I feel like if I actually wanted to indulge, I could employ it to justify a 35–100mm ƒ/2.8 Ii*....
Ah, dilemmas....
